COMPANIONS |
Shylo thoroughly checks the suitability, personal integrity and past experience of Companions before introducing them to clients. Most companions are not necessarily trained in their field but have acquired practical experience by working with seniors. However, they are limited in their duties. Companions may assist with personal care (supervising a bath and helping the client dry off and dress) but may not provide * "Total Care" for someone who is unable to stand or provide any help in their own care.
* "Total Care" is when the Caregiver provides all personal care for a physically-challenged client who is unable to do it for themselves. Duties may include use of a mechanical lift to transfer a non-weight bearing client from bed to wheelchair, then from wheelchair to bathboard. The Caregiver washes, dries and dresses the client; does meal preparations, feeds the client, prepares and gives medications and does whatever housekeeping, laundry, shopping or day-to-day duties are required.
