Private Care vs. Government-assisted Care?

As we discussed earlier in "What do we do first?" we always encourage everyone to have an assessment done by the Government to evaluate how much assistance they may receive. Aside from enquiring about receiving Government assistance, it is always a good idea to "be in the system" in case future help is required.

Once you've been assessed and informed that you qualify for "x # of hours per week" you've got several options to choose from

a) If the number of hours offered by the Government are enough to meet your needs, then you're all set. You can then initiate care knowing that if your needs increase in the future you can always (i) request an increase in hours from the Government, or (ii) request additional services from Shylo Nursing to complement the hours provided by the Government.

b) If the hours offered by the Government are insufficient to meet your needs--a common occurrence--Shylo is happy to integrate any additional help with the Government scheduled
time(s).

c) Many people prefer to experience consistency of staffing (something Government is usually unable to accommodate) and choose to use only one agency so they may develop a relationship and be comfortable with regular staff members.

As a private agency, our goal at Shylo is always to match caregiver, client and the specifics of each job so that one person commits to the senior on a constant basis. Obviously, when there is a need to provide care seven days a week-or more than eight hours a day-then a team of well-selected caregivers will need to be co-ordinated on the client's benefit.
